The One-State/Two-States Controversy

Israeli historian Ilan Pappe and columnist Uri Avnery debated whether Israel-Palestine should be one state or two in Tel Aviv in May 2007. Their remarks and the overview of sponsor Gush Shalom (below) help to clarify this controversy. One state is also robustly defended by Ali Abunimah, author of the book "One Country," and in Jeff Halper's gloomy description of the ideas of Condoleeza Rice and Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni. A defense of the two-state approach is offered by U.S. Evangelicals, and elsewhere by diplomat/scholar Sari Nusseibeh in his 2007 book "Once Upon a Country."
